La Ferriera is a rustic charming renovated and refurbished barn standing at the end of an impressive avenue of ancient umbrella pine trees and magnificent gardens in the grounds of an important villa.
Full description
Ferriera is the Italian word for foundry, and this was originally the site of one of the largest ironworks in Italy. When the owner bought it some 30 years ago, it had been abandoned for two decades. Since then the buildings have been lovingly restored along with the land, now transformed into a famous, magical garden, which is open to the public.
The interiors are as interesting and inviting as the history of the grounds, a veritable Aladin’s cave and den filled with fascinating antiques collected from the owner’s extensive travels over the years. There is also a wonderful library, with a particular focus on the bucolic aspects such as gardening; altogether in keeping with the feel of the Villa.
